In an interview with WINGLESS's reporter on 15th of December 2025, the leadership of A CALL FOR ONENESS conveyed a message to the Nigerian youths to end the cycle of bad governance through active political participation and demands for accountability.
"Nigeria's political landscape is marred by a disturbing trend of bad governance, corruption, and ineptitude. As the future leaders of our nation, it is imperative that Nigerian youth recognize the importance of their participation in shaping the country's destiny. We must reject corrupt politicians and rise to take over leadership from those who have mismanaged our country for far too long." Comrade El-Barota Jos, spokesperson of the movement, said.
Comrade El-Barota addressed decades of political apathy and Nigerians' nonchalance towards factors contributing to bad governance and ill representation.
"The combination of political apathy and nonchalance has created a self-perpetuating cycle of poor governance, corruption, and inefficiency. Citizens' disengagement and lack of interest in the political process embolden leaders to prioritize personal gain over public service, leading to corruption, abuse of power, and poor governance," he said.
"Political apathy stems from repeated instances of electoral malpractices, corruption, and broken promises. These have eroded citizens' trust in the political system. Poverty and economic hardship often take precedence over civic engagement, leaving citizens with little time or energy to participate in politics," he added.
El-Barota warned Nigerian youths about the consequences of their nonchalance and stated ways of breaking the bad cycle.
He said, "The nonchalant attitude of citizens towards governance has severe consequences. When citizens don't vote, they surrender their power to shape the country's future, allowing unqualified or unscrupulous leaders to take control. Citizens' disengagement enables leaders to act with impunity, leading to corruption, abuse of power, and poor governance. And, without citizen input, policies are often crafted to serve the interests of the ruling elite, rather than the broader population.
To break this vicious cycle, Nigerian youth must recognize the importance of their participation in the political process through civic education, active participation, and demands for accountability from their representatives."
He urged Nigerian youths to reject corrupt leaders, take an active part in politics, and always demand accountability from all their representatives, regardless of their tribe or past affiliations.
"To my fellow Nigerian youth, I urge you to refuse to support politicians who have a history of corruption or poor governance. Take active roles in shaping the country's future by participating in politics, leadership, and decision-making processes. Hold leaders accountable for their actions, and demand transparency and good governance.
Together, we can break the cycle of poor governance and build a better future for ourselves and future generations. We must take ownership of our democracy and demand leaders who will serve the interests of the people, not just the privileged few," he said.
